Report Acequia Flood Damage & Register for NMAA Disaster Recovery Workshop

Dear Acequia Leaders,

NMAA is conducting outreach to acequias that have been impacted by recent flooding; we are here to support you and your community through the disaster recovery process.

As we extend our support and care to you, we hope first and foremost that you and your families are safe.

FEMA has declared an emergency in the counties of San Juan, Cibola, Rio Arriba, and Sandoval (EM-3660). We anticipate a federal disaster declaration soon.

NMAA has a Disaster Recovery Team that is available to answer questions you may have about acequia disaster recovery. They are here to assist you in navigating state and federal disaster assistance programs, such as FEMA.

We coordinate closely with the Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (DHSEM), which is the state agency responsible for working with FEMA to assess damages and provide resources for recovery. We encourage impacted acequias to contact DHSEM directly at 505-476-9635 as well as their County Emergency Manager (emergency manager contact information is provided below). NMAA’s role is to complement and support the official disaster recovery process.

Our immediate goal is to identify all acequias that have been damaged by flooding in the flood events that occurred between October 22-26. If your acequia has been damaged or clogged by silt or debris, please let us know by replying to this email or completing our REQUEST FOR ASSISTANCE FORM.

Please provide ASAP:
· Name of your acequia (as it appears in your bylaws)
· Your primary contact with all contact information
· A description of the damage

We will share this information with state and federal officials to ensure acequias are included in disaster recovery efforts.

Acequia Disaster and Survey123 Workshop
In addition to reporting your acequia damages, NMAA will be hosting a virtual disaster workshop on Thursday, November 5th at 6:00 pm. We will be reviewing the overall disaster process as well as providing training on how to document acequia damages using our Survey123 tool.

If you have any questions, please contact Hunter Alcon at NMAA by email at hunter@lasacequias.org or by phone at 505-995-9644.

Respectfully,

Hunter Alcon and the NMAA Disaster Team
